Sparks Music is your classic “from the mail room up” all-American success story. Roger Sparks started in 1964, teaching guitar students at his parents home on Route 4 in Arkansas City, Kansas. He quickly grew to teaching 50 to 60 lessons per week. It didn’t take long for his mom to want her living room back. So, in 1968, Roger and Diane Sparks founded Sparks Music at 836 South Summit. This was the heart of the explosion of live music in American culture. You would often find musicians like the legendary steel guitar player Jeff Newman stopping in to jam.
Soon the opportunity to obtain a larger storefront in the heart of downtown Arkansas City became available, and Sparks Music relocated to 105 N. Summit, where they remained until April 1974. In April of 1974, Sparks Music held their grand opening for their current location of 315 South Summit. In 1997, Roger and Diane Sparks saw the opportunity to expand their concept of service to central Kansas. Keller Music was purchased to establish a second location at 5 South Main in Hutchinson, Kansas. Soon it was evident that a much larger location would be needed. In May of 2002, Sparks Music of Hutchinson moved to their current location of 108 North Main. Sparks Music over the years has brought the current trends in entertainment to our customers. Innovations such as satellite dishes, movie rentals, large format televisions, and surround sound were all introduced to the area by Sparks Music. Emerging brands such as Fender, Taylor, Martin, Peavey, Sony, Yamaha, and Mitsubishi all sought out Sparks Music to establish their brands in southcentral Kansas. Sparks music now encompasses a 45,000 square foot facility in Arkansas City and a 6,000 square foot facility in Hutchinson, and continue to grow to meet our customers needs.
